Guitarist Andy Rothstein to Teach Hands-on
Jazz Guitar Workshops at the Barron Arts Center

Learn the art of jazz guitar improvisation

 Jazz Guitarist Andy Rothstein will share his knowledge of improvisational jazz-fusion for the guitar by conducting a workshop – “Hands-on Jazz Guitar Workshop” in February 2011 at the Barron Arts Center, located at 582 Rahway Avenue, Woodbridge, NJ. This workshop will teach the art of jazz guitar improvisation by providing participants with a foundation in theory, technique, and hands-on application using jazz standards.

 

The workshop will be held on Saturday afternoons, February 5-26, 2011, from 1:30-2:30 pm and will consist of 4 one-hour sessions, broken down into approximately 50% lecture and 50% hands-on guided practice.  The cost for the workshop is $130, with a $10 discount offered if you sign up before January 21, 2010. Class space is limited to 10 enrollments and will be accepted on a first-come basis. Checks can be made payable and sent to: Andy Rothstein, P.O. Box 343, Woodbridge, NJ, 07095.

This workshop is intended for musicians of high school age and beyond who know the basics of how to play the guitar, and would like to expand their knowledge by studying the idiom of Jazz. It is not an introduction to the guitar, so a pre-requisite is that participants will need to know the basics of how to play the guitar.

 About Andy Rothstein

Andy Rothstein has played guitar since the age of 13, and studied with such jazz greats as Steve Khan, Kevin Eubanks, Vinnie Zummo and Ted Dunbar. His unique style of contemporary jazz guitar fuses the modern jazz qualities of Chris Standring, with the blues stylings of Stevie Ray and atmospheric chords of Andy Summers, while still respecting the traditional approach of bebop players like Pat Martino. His latest CD release “Wit of the Staircase” has garnered much praise from critics and music aficionados alike. He is a member of the Jersey Shore Jazz and Blues Foundation, NJ Jazz Society and has played numerous venues and festivals, including the Red, White & Blues: Jazz and Blues from the Garden State concert series this past July. WOODBRIDGE, New Jersey – May 3, 2010 ­– The Barron Arts Center is seeking vendors for their annual Flea Market on Saturday, July 17^th, 2010. The flea market is located on the Barron Art Center’s front lawn, located at 582 Rahway Avenue, Woodbridge, NJ. Hours of market are 8:00am until 2:30pm; vendor setup will begin at 7:00am.

 

Each 6 foot vendor space allocated costs $15 with vendor’s own table, or $20 with a table supplied by the Barron Arts Center. Checks must be received by June 30^th to be guaranteed a table and/or space. Make checks payable to: Woodbridge Twp. Arts Council and mail to: Barron Arts Center, 582 Rahway Avenue, Woodbridge, NJ 07095.

In the spirit of giving back to the community, the Barron Arts Center is collecting items for the Mayor’s Food Pantry, Woodbridge Animal Shelter and Angel  PAWS at all programs and events throughout the year. Please bring a non-perishable food donation for the Mayor’s Food Pantry and/or cat & dogs items for Woodbridge Animal Shelter and Angel  PAWS. Items needed include cat and dog food (wet and premium dry), kitty litter, paper towels, paper plates, cleaning supplies (bleach, soap), towels, animal beds, toys, bathroom throw rugs, plastic garbage bags, grooming items (q-tips, cotton balls), and office supplies (paper, pens, etc.).
