Call for Artists – Humor in Art     Curator: Jim Fuess www.jimfuessart.com who is a member of the www.newartgroup.com who curate shows at the Watchung Arts Center www.watchungarts.org . Venue: The Watchung Arts Center is a multi use arts facility with an upper and lower art gallery. We also present quality works in fine arts, exciting music, and comedy show events as well as classes in drawing, photography, and yoga. This means that a large number of people see the art shows. The basics: All works must be hand delivered. The work must hang on the wall. No work larger than 36 inches in any dimension. The works are NOT insured. No nudity. 30% commission. We will ask each accepted artist who is included in the show to donate a hanging fee of $35.00 to the Arts Center to cover expenses. The Gallery: The upper gallery where this show will be held is 30x40 feet with 12 foot ceilings, track lighting, and a Walker hanging system. Your show will open at the same time as that of the lower gallery. Curator Statement: I am looking for art that is humorous. That being said I am not looking for a one joke piece. I am looking for images and ideas that will linger with the viewer. Weird, strange and bizarre are welcome. The gallery is 30x40. I will choose at least 8 artists. I prefer a series of works or a narrative rather than disconnected pieces. If your layout or hanging is complicated I may ask you to hang your work. The presentation doesn’t have to be linear. The work can be eight feet up or a foot off the floor. Send a series of works that will loosely fit a 15-20 foot wall space, at a low resolution to [email protected] . You may add any statement or explanation you want to. As with most curated shows the work that is sent in sometimes determines what the show looks like. So everything above may change. I expect a lot of rabbits. I hope to have a fun and disturbing show. Thanks.
