The education and empowerment of women has been a major force in the changing landscape of our society. HCOCHA/TD is seeking photographs by women photographers that illustrate

how women’s participation has affected all aspects

of the way we live in the 21^st century.

 

Submissions (6 images maximum) should be emailed to:

Please put “WHM 2012” in the subject line of the email.

Submission Deadline: Monday February 13, 2012.

 Acceptances will be emailed: Friday February 16, 2012

 

All accepted work must be framed and prepared for suspension hanging. Work should be no smaller than 4 inches by 6 inches and no larger than 36 inches in width (including frame)   Drop off of accepted work: February 27  9am—7pm & February 28  9am-5pm,  Accepted work may also be sent to the gallery. Please call for instructions.

WEATHERED, NOT WORN

It does not matter how smart the man

Save what makes up his bones

Sitting with cigarette in hand

Pretending to be all of his own

 

But does he drink his liquor warm

or sip it straight from the morning sail?

 

And can you smell the wicker, sleeping cool underneath his bitter nail?

 

Only the ocean can tell

But too dense to frown

Too light to smile

Too long to unravel

 

Look how young its eyes once were

Collecting shards of wind

To wage war upon the mourning, I begin

 

But sleeping through the rich days of lavender and haze

While only time will know its truth

Suffer not, for you know it is not true

 

While tiny birds of glass can only fly in the afternoon

We hope the sun remains strong, but not too cruel

BIOGRAPHY

 

Andrew Lowe is a resident of New Jersey and graduate of Middlesex County College and Kean University. While attending MCC, he was a member of the Art & Photography Club, as well as a designer and the literary editor of Myriad, the student-run, literary and arts magazine on campus, which garnered numerous awards and recognitions from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association of Columbia University. Andrew has previously written for the Mirror, a newspaper publication in Central Jersey and most recently was a guest communications coordinator with Disney Cruise Line. He currently works as a freelance graphic designer and does work for non-profit organizations in a design collaborative he helped co-found.

YOU'RE INVITED! 2012 Artists' Roundtable This year’s annual Artists’ Roundtable will highlight topics of interest to artists working in all disciplines. The three 50 minute sessions will feature presentations on marketing and publicity strategies and tools; professional opportunities for artists; and creative solutions for securing work, exhibition and performance space. The event will conclude with a networking session to which all participants are welcome.   Thursday, February 2 3:00 pm - 5:30 pm Visual Arts Center of New Jersey 68 Elm Street, Summit, NJ 07901 Directions . New Jersey artists working in any discipline are encouraged to attend. The event is FREE and registration is required Each session will be repeated once. A snow date will be arranged if necessary. The Artists' Roundtable will be preceded by the Arts Council business meeting from 1:00 - 2:45 pm. The meeting will be devoted to the importance of artists in our communities and will include Council vote and announcement of the 2012 Artist Fellowship awards in the categories of crafts, sculpture, photography, poetry and playwriting.
