Carrie Pedersen Hudak

Carrie Pedersen Hudak is an essayist and poet who is intrigued with the processes of growth and cultivation in both the natural world and in the creative arts. She has graduate degrees in education and in comparative literature. An editor for Rutgers University Press and a certified yoga teacher, Carrie is intrigued by the intersection between the great literary writings of our present and past and individual experience and expression in the present.

Gregg Glory  [Gregg G. Brown] has devoted his life to poetry since happening across a haiku by Moritake, to wit:
Leaves
float back up to the branch—
Ah!  butterflies.

He runs the micro-publishing house BLAST PRESS, which has published over two dozen authors in the past 25 years.  Named in honor of the wild Vorticist venture by Ezra Pound and Wyndham Lewis, BLAST PRESS is forward-looking and very opinionated.

He still composes poems on his departed father's clipboard, which he’s had since High School.

From the poem: A Handmade Heart

I slimed and shaped my raw thumbed cup
In a fever-fervor, glazing runnels of water
Over twining layers of aorta and vena cava.
I rushed to paint my heart alive and leave it
To be made glossy by fire in a silver kiln
Warm as a giant can of Sterno
Until I carry it home another day
To lay before you, waiting for you
To fill my handmade heart
With honey.

The Trouble with Talking

When Saturn knocks

Time a hungry mist begins

Feeding afresh

Your heart in your flesh

A faraway star

Sweeps entropy under the rug

 

You understand

 

The trouble with talking:

You’re a double

The shine this side of the glass

Blurs the sight of you

An anomaly astir

An ankh swathed in meat.

 

And yet daring to hold

Your own angot tile up

To the Rosetta stone,

 

Your candor robed in fruit

With juice enough for the simpler senses.

With that you deal

One more day

With the trouble

And you trouble the trouble with talking

Until you can learn how to sing.
