Art Cycle is an exhibition of bicycle inspired art. Marcel Duchamp created his most famous Readymade Bicycle Wheel in 1913. Over the last century the influence of the bicycle on art is as diverse and far reaching as the two wheel machine itself. Bikes have been used as kinetic sculptures, muses for painters and photographers, and as a blank canvas for artists and innovators alike. This exhibition, once again, hopes to capture the spirit of the bicycle and its place on contemporary art. More info

DeGise, Hudson County Executive, the Hudson County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Hudson County Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs/Tourism Developments. The exhibit will be installed in the Brennan Gallery in the Justice William J. Brennan Court House located at 583 Newark Avenue in Jersey City. Identity Blueprint is a free program for 10-12th grade female high school students in Newark. Each student learns how to create an original body of work using cyanotype photographs (also called "blueprints") and digital video. Students collaborate with teaching artists and other professionals to create a blog and an exhibition of their art. The program is from March 3, 2012-May 10, 2012 at Gallery Aferro in downtown Newark, NJ. You need only be interested in art and able to attend Saturday workshops. Please take this opportunity to participate in Newark School of the Arts' (NSA) 3rd Annual Strong Women Exhibition in celebration of Women's HERstory month. To be eligible, applicants must be women artists age 18+. All mediums except crafts are acceptable. Work must be original. All work on canvas must be gallery wrapped or framed. Creative Capital: Request for Proposals Deadline: Thursday, March 1
Creative Capital, a national nonprofit organization that provides integrated financial and advisory support to artists pursuing adventurous projects, has announced guidelines and the application schedule for its 2012 grant cycle. This year's program is open to artists working in emerging fields, literature, and performing arts. Creative Capital is offering free information sessions on its 2012 grant application process in-person and online. Index Art Center - Filmideo Open Call Deadline: Saturday, March 10
7th annual film and video screenings. Filmideo is a yearly event that celebrates the great diversity and work of independent filmmakers and video artists from around the globe. For an entire month, IAC transforms its gallery space into a screening theater where artists' works are project onto a 10' x 10' screen and viewed by audiences of up to 100 people per screening. Curators Elisabeth Murray and Jonathan Brantley, in collaboration with Rogue Video and Performance, seek video art to be projected out-of-doors in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY for the exhibition Speculation and Spectacle. This event will take place in the area beneath the BQE between Meeker and Union Avenues on May 3rd from 7:30 pm until 9:30 pm. The exhibition will address the theme of gentrification. Bergen County MLK Memorial Committee RFP Deadline: Sunday, April 1
The Bergen County Martin Luther King Memorial Committee is seeking proposals for a commemorative sculpture of Dr. Martin Luther King. The sculptural piece should be a realistic portrayal celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. King. The committee will commission a sculptor for an outdoor, 7.5 foot life-size bronze statue of Dr. King with strong visual impact for visitors and students on the Fairleigh Dickinson University Campus in Hackensack, NJ.
